Hello from Hungary!

Jody and I arrived in Hungary on Monday to attend and take part in this year’s European DrupalCon, which is taking place in the lovely little city Szeged, near Hungary’s southern border. We had a bumpy ride here, mostly due to the chaos that is Rome’s airport, and we were a bit hampered by jet lag and a serious case of internet withdrawal on our way to Szeged. But things are going a lot better now that the conference has begun and our wireless cards are no longer starved for access. We’ve already drank two bars out of beer (with a lot of help from other thirsty Drupalers) and connected with a lot of friends we haven’t seen in a while.

Drupalcon presentation

I will not be able to make it to the Drupalcon this year, however my mentor Kkaefer will be on deck for the Summer of code showcase.
I am going to attach the presentation PDF because it’s pretty elaborate. You can grab it at http://www.skiquel.com/files/drupalcon2008-color.pdf.
If you are at the con,

  • Color.module needs community effort to get into 7.x

Post-SOC color.module update.

Most of these updates are fixes for the demonstration and documentation.
The major exception is the stylesheet engine update.

  - Under the hood: Fixed bug with currenttheme + edit scheme button on color block sending to incorrect theme.
  - Under the hood: Removed superfluous data from edit_scheme form and submit
  - Under the hood: Changed permissions around. Color scheme is now available to those with user_access("administer access control")

New alpha release with new UI and improved code

A new alpha release is out, download here: http://drupal.org/node/295520
The previous alpha release had some weird bugs I wasn’t able to squash. I wasn’t happy with how the module handled the icon set and icons data, and with the deadline fast approaching, I decided to rewrite those functions. At the same time, I made some improvements to other parts of the code, splitting some functions into smaller ones, generally adding more structure to the module. It now works very well, and I’m more comfortable with how it works under the hood.

Status updates

As the summer begins to come to a close I would like to give a report of how my projects are coming along.
Google Summer of code
Color.module is coming along as anticipated. I am fulfilling what was promised in the original proposal minus small exception (anonymous scheme selection).

How YOU (yes, you!) can make Drupalcon's "Awesome Testing Party" awesome

The Drupalcon Szeged schedule just went up last week. It’s jam-packed with interesting sessions ranging from low-level geeky goodness, to design and usability sessions, to Drupal business best practices. And the BoF schedule is filling up with tons of interesting stuff, too.
A list of the sessions I’m leading/partaking in follows the break. But first! I need your help!
Something we’re doing this time around is an experiment in community swarming: the Awesome Testing Party. The aim is for both new and established contributors to learn how to write automated tests (and how to contribute to Drupal in general) by practicing with real tests that need writing for Drupal 7, with members of the “Drupal Testing Brigade” on-hand to help answer questions.
