It was about time

So far I had been only writting tons of tests cases, and trying to make them work, while wrapping my mind around the architecture of what the previous dplay coder wrote.

But yesterday, while boling inside a train that slowly glided under the relentless spanish sun, I finally managed to stop being dazed by the lights and start doing something productive, writing the first patch that fixes something in the Real World™: making GTA2 list the available service providers. It was, indeed, a stupid bug but I had to start somewhere.

Well, the patch is written, but now getting it applied will probably imply at least the same amount of work :D

Getting some real functionality will take a while, specially if Microsoft keeps ignoring me. The previous coder that worked on dplay had access to the documentation needed for creating new service providers, provided by Microsoft. This guy doesn’t have that documentation anymore, and even if the Microsoft support dudes agreed to provide me this documentation, I’ve had no news from them in some time, so I’m just trying to guess it according to what’s already coded.

As time goes by, I’m more sure I won’t be able to leave dplay working by the end of the GSoC project. So far I managed to sort of respect my schedule, but from now on it’ll be more difficult. At least now I have a much clearer picture of what’s done and what’s to be done than when I wrote my application.
But even if I don’t finish my project on GSoC time I’ll keep coding, I can’t leave this now that it’s finally getting interesting ;)

Why do you have colors on your wine output? I’d like those.

Haha, sexy, right? I had a hard time parsing huge amounts of output, and knew I couldn’t be the only lazy human parser around, so googled for a while and installed grcat/grc, which is more or less like a grep that colorizes any given file or output using a configuration file where you tell him which regexps colorize in which color.

For example, this is my configuration file for wine debug outputs, ~/.grc/conf.wine:
