mac config woes

Well I’m starting to wind down from the “have to touch everything I see” phase of playing with my new macbook and have actually moved on to compiling libtprl and tpserver-cpp to run natively in OSX (and not a VM.) I encountered what I would call Bug #0: Nothing works until you try it again the next day. I was having a lot of difficulty getting just libtprl to compile and kept coming back with an error about readline. I eventually got fed up and upon trying again today I stumbled past that hurdle. The only difference was in following mithro’s mac instructions here to the T. Most likely the Mac version of the packages I was hung up on were causing the problem, and specifying to use the Fink versions cleared things up.
I’m now currently hung up on a problem configuring/compiling tpserver-cpp. While I am following mithro’s instructions I believe I may be missing gnutls and avahi. I ran into a hiccup when installing the avahi as the package libxml2 is currently bugged out and fails checksums left and right. For anyone who somehow needs to compile on OSX 10.5, and is installing avahi via macports: Make sure you run the following after a failed libxml2 install:
sudo port clean --all libxml2
sudo port sync
sudo port install libxml2

 That should clear things up.
I’m actually still waiting now for avahi to finish installing so I can give this tpserver-cpp configure another go. More on that when things start happening.

On the lighter side:
The only qualm I have so far about my mac is that I am not used to the keyboard. I am frequently missing “t”s everywhere because I type on the corners of key’s frequently, and my “t” key really does not like that. I guess I’ll learn to type through it. I’m also helping my sister-in-law getting her own .com up and running. Her blog is currently here and will shortly be located at lifeofacupcake.com. So if anyone reading this is intensely interested in baking you can hit her site up!
